50,000 winners each year sounds like a large number, but what if I told you the odds?  What if you knew that the 13 million annual applicants (a number that grows each year) only gave you a 0.42% chance of taking home the prize?  What if I told you that turning in a spotless application could improve your chances?  The U.S. Department of State throws away an estimated 25% of applications each season.  If your fully eligible, error-free, complete government Green Card lottery application could be among those considered, would you like the fact that you just upped your chances to 0.56%?

For more information on how to DOUBLE your chances with the lottery..CLICK HERE!

Your chances of winning  may be lower than you knew, but don’t cry—it’s still worth the bid.  Compared to the other mechanisms for applying for U.S. permanent residence, the lottery process is fast, efficient, and free!

Consider the alternatives:  having a family member support your green card lottery application, seeking political or religious asylum, or being sponsored through your employer or job.  If you have no U.S. naturalized relatives and are lucky enough not to be the victim of persecution, you are surely familiar with the difficulty of finding employers who are willing to sponsor.  The government Green Card lottery provides something invaluable to individuals who have few inroads:  it levels the playing field.

There are a few more eligibility requirements to participate in the government Green Card lottery, Your country of citizenship must be cleared for application in any given year.  In accordance with the spirit of the law (the Immigration Act of 1990), Diversity Visa lottery winners must come from underrepresented countries (countries from which no more than 50,000 nationals have emigrated to the U.S. in the previous five years).  Additionally entrants must have completed high school and must have a two-year work history in a pre-approved job.

The U.S. Department of State Bureau of Consular Affairs offers an extraordinary annual service.  For the past 20 years, it has allowed qualified immigrants to participate in the Diversity Visa program (more commonly known as the Green Card Lottery application).  For a six week period each calendar year (green card lottery 2010), permanent resident hopefuls can “place their names in the hat” and hope they are chosen in a random drawing.  In order to follow the intention of the program (to promote emigration by individuals from traditionally underrepresented countries), the U.S. State Department offers this opportunity free of charge.

It is curious, then, that so many independent services charge between $50-$100 to “facilitate” the Green Card lottery application process.  Indeed, the U.S. State Department web site warns entrants to avoid “fraudulent” services charging for a non-existent entry fee.  But, are the service providers and the fraud sites one and the same?  Fortunately, they are not.  For some applicants, there are good reasons to utilize a facilitation service.  Here are the most common three:

  1.  Lack of English Skills.  An estimated 25% of applications are disqualified each year due to error, incompleteness, or ineligibility.  For applicants who lack mastery of the English language or who are unfamiliar with U.S. laws and immigration processes, a service might be good insurance.

  1. Plans to Apply Several Years in a Row.  Several of the larger companies offer the service of completing your entry application for several years in a row.  This relieves the burden of proactively monitoring the official web site for the announcement of the narrow six-week application window.

  1. Faster Notification. The U.S. Department of State does not send winners letters of notification until several months after the drawing.  Most services, however, include immediate notification of both selection and non-selection in the Green Card lottery application as part of their standard fee.

If you applied for the Green Card lottery 2010  draw (officially known as the “Diversity Visa”), don’t hold your breath waiting for the results.  Though the U.S. Department of State makes winner information available via its web site soon after the drawing, it can take weeks or months before winners receive official notification letters, which are sent out by traditional mail.  And what of the more than 13 million entrants who are not selected each year?  The U.S. State Department does not send notification to non-winners.  So, if you want to know your Green Card Lottery 2010  results sooner rather than later, and you want to know definitively, you’ll want to check your status online.

For more information regarding your Green Card Lottery 2010 status..CLICK HERE!

The first step? Go to the U.S. Department of State Bureau of Consular Affairs Diversity Visa page.  Don’t forget to find the confirmation number you were issued when you first applied.  The only other things they will ask for are things you will know:  your surname and your year of birth.  You are now equipped to gain instant access to results for the 2010 season.  Good luck!

If you didn’t win, and you missed the deadline for the 2011 season (which passed on November 30th, 2009), get ready for 2012.  Since most requirements don’t change significantly from one year to the next (with the exception of country eligibility), last year’s guidelines should give you an idea of your eligibility and what materials you can begin to gather now.

Your Green Card Lottery 2010 Status starts by CLICKING HERE!

And don’t forget to stay on top of the process, be it for the Green Card Lottery 2010 draw or any other season.  Last year’s application window occurred in late autumn and was barely six weeks long.  For more information on the green card lottery results, including important dates and requirements for the 2012 season, visit the main program web site at the U.S. Department of State Bureau of Consular Affairs.
